Other data sharing initiatives with private companies are also being worked on, including OPAL, an open algorithm collaboration between the World Economic Forum, MIT Media Lab, Orange, and others to derive aggregated insights from a company’s data without data leaving the company’s server. If proven successful, this could be a powerful tool in unlocking private data for social causes. It started in 2017 with pilots in Colombia and Senegal in partnership with their governments and two telecommunications operators.
